I am in Kansas for the weekend for work and I have to say it is refreshing to be back in the midwest. I was born and raised in Nebraska and the one thing I miss are the people. People that will say hi or smile when you pass on the street... even when you don't know them. People who will help you when you are in need. People who take pride in their work no matter what their job is. You walk into a store and the employees actually speak to you. It is always a bit shocking and I probably give a weird look the first few times since it has been over 15 years since I have lived in a place like that. I feel like I am home even though I am still a few hours away from my home town.
I was also very excited to be in a hotel.... with indoor plumbing, internet, and temperature control. I would have been happy with a motel 6 or a super 8... wonder what is up with the numbers.... but I am put in this beautiful historic hotel in downtown Lawrence.
For someone who is coming from nothing this is a bit extravagant. I have 2 sinks, 2 rooms and 2 TVs that are absolutely huge. Can't quite figure out how 1 person would use all this space. So I sat for a few minutes in the living room and watched TV before going to bed and watching TV. I washed my hands in both sinks... well for someone who doesn't have indoor plumbing this was very exciting. The indoor shower was completely worth the whole trip. haha... I just keep telling myself, now is not the time to forget where you are... I could just imagine myself forgetting where I am and walking into the hallway to pee. Luckily, I don't think I did that last night so all is good. :D
So off to show people the rockin' time we have using the Adaptive Use Musical Instruments. This will be a fun filled weekend.
